Sarah and I visited Fushimi Inari. Inari is the God of rice. There are some 10,000 torii, or gates lining pathways up to a mountain. They are quite beautiful, and the walk up was amazing with the play of light and shadows. Now each of these gates is purchased by businesses and place there in hopes of great prosperity. We watched a very intense young man who was painting the name of a business on a new post. The name is first carved into the post, then the painted freehands it with black paint. Sarah and I stopped for a few minutes to overlook a small lake along the path. At one point we came across an enormous bamboo forest. There were a few signs posted in a polite way...No fires and no smoking.,
