New Glass Table

About an hour ago Adan and his brother brought home our new glass table from artist, Maria Eggleston. We are crazy for this table. When we return in October we will have a proper support built on which to hold the table. For right now it is sitting on a makeshift support of cement blocks. Isn't it grand?

Going Home

Mike and I are flying back to Sequim tomorrow. It will be wonderful to be back and see family and friends, though we are not looking forward to the rain. Both of us have mixed emotions about leaving our Mulege home. The water temp has just risen to a bit over 70 degrees, and we know in a week or two as the temp rises even more, that we will start to get reports of fabulous fishing. Our garden next door is so amazingly beautiful that everyone who walks by on the river road stops to admire it, asking us questions or compliment us if we happen to be outside. The peony poppy seeds I planted are just getting ready to bloom. Boy I wish I could be here to see that. In between the poppies are the snapdragons. My favorites are the multi-colored ones. Mike took photos of the tiny grapefruits and their blossoms. The tree gives us seedless pink grapefruit, sweet as can be. One season here without a hurricane has been an enormous benefit to all of our trees and plants, as you might imagine. In fact, we cannot get over how healthy they all have become over the last six months. Much of this has to do with Mike's loving care of his garden. He IS the farmer! Our lime tree had lost a huge branch, but now it is absolutely covered in blossoms and tiny limes. The new casita is coming along smoothly now that the new steel roof is nearly completed. In fact, Jesus has already begun to tile the shower with some pretty light green tile we purchased in Santa Rosalia. That will be followed up with a pretty border tile, floor tile, on and on, but will be totally finished for Mike's Man Trip in May. Anyhoo, out of here tomorrow, a night in Seattle and home to Sequim Saturday.

Casita Update 3 29 11

We are leaving for Sequim in three days, but the work on our new casita continues. Hammering, welding, lots of noise here every day. The workers are artisans, very responsible and talented. When the roof is completed, then we move on to the interior tiling of the floors and shower. We are quite pleased with the six glass bricks which we are having installed in the shower.

Guest Room

More shots of our new guest room in the process. Had a surprise when the old storage area roof came off. All the rafters were termite ridden. The new steel roof will be finished today, a much better and secure roof indeed, but this has added quite a bit of expense to our project, and a delay of about ten days in completion. I cannot even imagine the cost of this in the US. Our workers are here six days a week, they are efficient, and they are wonderfully talented. It is a bit of a trial with the welding, hammering, the concrete mixer, but I mentioned to Mike the other day that I am getting used to it to the point where I only notice the silence after they leave in the afternoon.

Osprey on the River Road

Mike and I took Marv out fishing yesterday. We hit all of the best spots over five hours. It was a glorious blue day. The temp got up to about 80 degrees. No fish! We got on the boat radio, and it was the same for all the fishermen yesterday. However, it was another spendid day on the water, and having Marv on the boat is always a blast. What a funny witty fellow.

During the slow process of returning home with that big barge of a boat, we spotted an osprey dive into the river. He caught a fish, then flew to the top of a palm tree. I was delighted to get a couple of good shots of him. Check out his lunch....mullet in his left claw.

Mike on the River

Just about the first cast this morning by the bridge in town, Mike hauled in this big pargo. They really are a fun fish to catch. Give you lots of action. Mike was whooping it up, so I ran over and took these photos. Yes, I know the mouth shot makes the fish look absolutely terrifying and enormous, but it's pretty much an optical illusion...though it WAS a big fish, and it DID have a big mouth. Seems like everything down here has either teeth, or thorns!

Casita Update 3 14 11

Mike keeps taking photos of our new guest casita...in process...these guys are really amazing to watch. So talented and creative, with very few tools. Today makes the 12th day they have been working on it, and the transition is huge in such a short period of time.,

Sunflowers in Mulege

About 8 o'clock this morning the light seemed just right for sunflower photos. I even managed to capture a shot of a bee, or two. Aren't these lovely? How fun to be able to grow things in the winter and early spring.

Casita Update 2 8 11

Mike is doing a spendid job of taking photos as our new casita progresses along. Our workers are fast and talented. However, he was so hyped about it that yesterday I had to put him in lockup until cocktail hour.

Snow at the Farm

Mike and I had to leave Mulege, and go back to Sequim for a couple of reasons in January. While we were there it snowed like crazy! Chelsea bundled Ashton up, and walked down for a little visit. Made everything fun for us.
